Albemarle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority is a county-level legal entity serving the counties of Perquimans, Chowan, Gates, Dare, Currituck, Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington.
It also serves the towns within these counties including Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, Columbia, Hertford, and Edenton.
The Authority conducts centralized solid waste billing, data collection and reporting, hauler licensing and technical assistance for our members. We also assist our members with market research, recycling and special waste management program development, legislative updates, grant writing and educational services.

An intra-county transfer station in Buxton serves Dare County customers on Hatteras Island. The waste is primarily sent to East Carolina Environmental Landfill in Bertie County.
